2009 Year End Update
Friday, January 8, 2010
Rick and I hope you and your family had a nice holiday season and welcomed in 2010 safely. This year has proven to be very difficult in our rescue and grooming business as well as Rick's job. Thank God, Rick did not lose his job like about 100 of his fellow employees. He's currently taking furlough days instead, at least we still have insurance and he has a job! As many of you have noticed there haven't been any additions to our website or many removals. Our Angels haven't moved, therefore we can't accept any new rescues. However, we have had to take in a couple of previously adopted Angels back from owner's who were either unwilling to continue their responsibility or had lost their jobs. My grooming business at home has been diminishing as well due to client's job loss, moving to keep their jobs, or the passing of their senior pets.
Since our lovely economy has been on the decline, of course our donations to help keep us up and running has come to an all time low. Our donations this year have been about $1000.00. Although any and all donations are much appreciated and needed, we can't continue to run our rescue by making up the difference from our personal funds due to drop in our personal income.
Below are some of the cost of running our rescue. Does not include any emergency visits to the vet.
- Kennel License $100.00 a year
- State renewal License $35.00 a year
- Bleach to clean floors $60.00 a month
- DZ7 to clean and disinfect floors $150.00 a quarter
- Dog Food $200.00 a month
- Heartworm Prevention $72.00 a year
- Vaccines - Distemper & Bordetella $150.00 a year
- Vaccines & Office visits (Rabies & Yearly Check up) $40 to $60 per rescue
- Insulin & Needles $ 100.00 per year
- Dentals $100.00 per rescue
- Eye removal $270.00 we had 2 this past year
- Website charges $12.95 a monthv
- Mop heads $14.00 a month
- Papertowels $20.00 a month
- Odo Ban $40.00 a month
- KOE $80.00 a quarter
- Blood work for any rescue being sedated $40.00 per incident
- Laundry detergent $30.00 a month (for dog towels and beds)
As you can see it is very expensive to run a rescue, not to mention wear and tear on my vehicle and gasoline.
What we urgently need are donations of food (Purina Dog Chow or Pedigree), dog beds (old or new), bleach, we are also in desperate need of mulch/gravel to help our mud problem and monetary donations. Please remember all donations are tax deductible. If you do not want to send us the check directly, you are welcome to send it to Orr Animal Hospital at 1902 Old Atlanta Rd, Cumming GA 30041, for the benefit of Cindy's K-9 Angels account number 56667.
As many of you have noticed we have had an excessive amount of rain this year. Some of our friends were flooded out and we came within a quarter of an inch from having the shop flooded. We need help digging a trench and making a grade to where the water will go away from the house. We need gravel and mulch. If you know anyone who works for Georgia Power or anyone working with trees we need your help! Anyone willing to donate wood chippings or mulch would be answering a prayer! The mud is so bad we have to mop about 6 to 8 times a day.
If the economy doesn't pick up quickly we will be forced to close our rescue when our July 2010 license expires. Therefore, if you know of anyone looking to rescue a pet, please refer your friends and family to us. If you can't afford donations, please help in other ways by referring your friends to me for grooming either at our home location or our Cumming location. Word of mouth is like gold and helps tremendously as well!
As many of you know this kills me to have to do this, since my entire family has put our heart and soul into rescue since July 2004. We have shared a lot of tears and happy moments with new parents including parents from out of state.
We continue to love hearing from our parents and receive updated pictures and phone calls. We love you all and no matter what you will always be my Angels for helping me help these babies!

Cartridge Recycling
Some of you have heard me talking and/or saw the blurb in the last printed newsletter about saving your empty inkjet, laser or toner cartridges. We are using the money that we receive for recycling these empties to purchase professional-grade kennels.
To date, we have been using regular wire crates and these have done an adequate job. However, they tend to rust (must be replaced), trays have to be replaced often (very expensive), and the dogs tend to bark/growl/fight when it is dinner or treat time. Keep an eye on the fundraising page, where we will regularly update our progress. The Peters family (who adopted Patty) donated approximately 100 cartridges. Thank you so much!
Depending upon the type, we can receive up to $22 per cartridge, so this is a great fundraising mechanism for us, in addition to being environmentally friendly. If you or your company would like to donate cartridges, please let me know. We will be happy to pick them up.
If you are interested in making a monetary donation to help us acquire the new kennels, please write "Kennels" in the memo field of your personal check. The total purchase price of the kennels with shipping will be approximately $2500. These kennels will last us a lifetime. No more replacing trays and crates due to breakage or rust!
We work with several recycling firms to negotiate top-dollar for the cartridges, and I am excited to report we recently shipped our first 4 boxes worth! Keep them coming!
New Website!
Wednesday, March 21, 2007
Rick and I would like to thank Jared Sarkisian, for volunteering his time to overhaul the Cindy's K-9 Angels, website. It looks awesome! Our adoption application is now online, in addition to my calendar. Hopefully, we will be able to attract some local businesses to advertise with us!
Take a few minutes to check out all of the new features and let us know what you think! Poor Jared has had to deal with a novice (me) throughout the process, but I have learned many new things. Thank you Jared, for being so patient with me and making us such a wonderful site!
...Cindy is far smarter than she admits, and is a joy to work with. She is a very busy girl who devotes her time and energy to a very honorable and worthwhile mission. It has been my priviledge to accomplish this site overhaul with her, and I look forward to helping her maintain and update it. – Jared
